What does Field Marshal Asim Munir want??
Asim Munir — the current Army Chief, now labelled by parliament as Field Marshal, who recently got lifetime immunity from imprisonment, arrest, and conviction — also knows that it will not be possible to keep Imran Khan in a cage for much longer time۔
This is creating fear of action in the military-led establishment and political puppets once Imran comes to power.
After fighting a fake war against India, Asim Munir granted himself the title of Field Marshal through the current political puppets. Even the structure of the courts has been entirely rearranged; the top court has been reduced to a tax/traffic court that once oversaw constitutional cases.
Through the illegal 27th Constitutional Amendment, the Munir-led force got empowered with lifetime immunity from arrest and imprisonment under the umbrella of being declared a national hero.
After he came to power, he violated the fundamental human rights of prisoners; even septuagenarians and children were not spared.
The sisters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan were kicked and thrashed by police personnel after they sat in protest demanding a meeting with their brother.
When the 26th Constitutional Amendment took place, selective judges were taken for constitutional cases, and those who were in the key race for Chief Justice were handed settlement cases of traffic, tax, etc. The rules of appointing the Chief Justice were changed. Following the retirement of former Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Justice Mansoor — the rightful successor — was removed as he did not comply with military policies, and Justice Yahya Afridi was made the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
Justice Amin was made the head of the constitutional bench, depriving senior pueine judge Syed Mansoor Shah of the seat.
Now, as the 27th Constitutional Court has been established — which has more powers than the Supreme Court — top credible judges have resigned in protest.
With this, the pressure is growing, and sooner or later the much-awaited extension notification will come, for which the meeting of party supporters and sisters was delayed, but has now been assured for today.
Asim Munir wants to control Pakistan through all sectors, and leaders of the government have also raised concerns over such amendments, where lifetime immunity would mean: “If tomorrow Asim Munir fires a bullet from his gun at anyone, courts would not decide, no arrest, no FIR, no imprisonment…”
Through his social media puppets, Asim says Imran should make a deal with the military establishment like Nawaz and Asif did. Imran Khan also admits that proposals for a deal have been made several times, but he says he would choose death over slavery.
This is the fear in the top military leadership — that if Imran returns to power someday, he would hang the wrongdoers in the military and political establishment.
Reports also state that if Asim Munir stays in power, the next move is likely the imposition of Presidential Rule in Pakistan, with a breakup of the provincial structure and finance commission, which would instill fear of a worsening crisis in the country.
