BJP Suspends Three Leaders in Bihar for Anti-Party Activities, RK Singh Resigns
A day after securing its victory in Bihar, the BJP has turned its attention to dissent within its own ranks. Former Union Minister RK Singh, along with Legislative Council member Ashok Agarwal and Katihar Mayor Usha Agarwal, has been suspended for alleged anti-party activities. Singh quit the party shortly after receiving the notice.
The suspension letters were issued on Saturday morning by Arvind Sharma, in charge of the Bihar BJP state headquarters. The leaders have been given one week to explain why they shouldn’t be expelled.

“You are indulging in anti-party activities… This has caused harm to the party,” the notice stated, warning that failure to respond could lead to their expulsion.
Party insiders say the suspension is largely procedural and that all three are likely to be removed from the BJP eventually.
Singh, a former MP from Arrah and a retired IAS officer, had been openly critical of the party since losing the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Over the past months, he repeatedly questioned the NDA’s leadership in Bihar and raised doubts about the credibility of candidates fielded by some of its allies.
His sharpest criticism was aimed at Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, the BJP’s most prominent face in the state. After Prashant Kishor levelled corruption allegations against Choudhary and state BJP chief Dilip Jaiswal, Singh accused the duo of damaging the party’s reputation and demanded accountability.
He went further, calling Choudhary and Jaiswal “murder accused,” urging voters to reject tainted candidates. Singh also questioned Choudhary’s educational qualifications and brought up the criminal record of JDU’s Anant Singh, adding that “it’s better to drown in a handful of water than vote for them.”

Despite his attacks, both Choudhary and Dilip Jaiswal won their seats in the election.
A Bihar-cadre IAS officer before entering politics, Singh served as Union Home Secretary during Manmohan Singh’s government. He joined the BJP in 2013, won the Arrah Lok Sabha seat twice, and became Power Minister in the Modi 1.0 cabinet. His defeat in 2024 left him increasingly isolated within the party — a rift that has now culminated in his exit.
