Nowgam police station Blast: 9 Killed, several injured | Matter on Probe

At least nine people were killed and several others were injured on Friday after an accidental explosion tore through the Nowgam police station in Srinagar.

The blast occurred while police personnel and a Forensic Science Laboratory team were examining explosive material inside the premises. Officials were in the process of extracting samples from a large cache of explosives recently seized in Faridabad as part of the ongoing investigation into the so-called “white-collar” terror module, according to PTI.

The impact damaged several vehicles parked in the compound. Fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the site, and authorities sealed all roads leading to the police station as emergency crews responded.

The Faridabad seizure had involved nearly 2,900 kilograms of ammonium nitrate and other bomb-making components recovered from two rented rooms in Dhauj and Fatehpur Taga villages on the outskirts of the city.

Investigators have tied the rooms to Dr. Muzammil Shakil, a 35-year-old physician from Pulwama who taught at Al-Falah Medical College. He was arrested about two weeks ago after a probe into radical posters appearing across the Kashmir Valley. His questioning led police to the alleged Jaish-e-Mohammed module operating in Faridabad and the substantial haul of explosives.

Officials believe the module was being coordinated by a trio of doctors — Muzammil Shakeel Ganaie, Umar Nabi, and Muzzaffar Rather. Nabi is accused of driving the explosive-laden car that blew up near the Red Fort on November 10, while Rather remains on the run.
