Bihar Elections 2025: NDA Surges Ahead in Bihar, Opens Dominant Lead as Counting Crosses Six Hours

By 2 pm, six hours into the counting of votes, the NDA had pulled far ahead in Bihar, leading in 201 seats. The BJP was ahead in 91 constituencies, while Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) led in 80. Chirag Paswan’s LJP (RV) held leads in 22 seats, and Jitan Ram Manjhi’s HAM was in front in five.

The Mahagathbandhan, meanwhile, was struggling to stay competitive. It led in just 36 seats, with the RJD ahead in 27. The CPI(ML) and the Congress held narrow leads in four seats each, and the CPM was leading on a single seat.

The election has turned into a one-way contest, with the ruling alliance widening its lead almost minute by minute. Jan Suraaj, the new party floated by strategist Prashant Kishor, hasn’t made an impact so far. For the RJD, early trends point to what could become one of its poorest showings in Assembly polls. Even the alliance’s chief ministerial face, Tejashwi Yadav, is trailing in Raghopur, where BJP’s Santosh Kumar is ahead by roughly 3,000 votes.

Chirag Paswan’s LJP (RV), leading in 20 seats, is inching close to the party’s strongest performance — 29 seats in 2005 under Ram Vilas Paswan. The NDA’s move to allocate 29 seats to the faction had drawn scepticism, but today’s numbers suggest the BJP’s gamble on Chirag may have paid off.

Mahagathbandhan Faces Steep Slide

With the NDA sweeping across regions, the Mahagathbandhan is struggling even to approach the 40-seat mark, underscoring the scale of the ruling alliance’s early advantage.
