Amid Slight Improvement in Air Quality, CAQM Decides Against Stricter Curbs in Delhi

Amid a slight improvement in the air quality of the national capital, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has decided not to invoke stricter curbs under Stage 3 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) for now.

As Delhi’s daily average AQI remained at the higher end of the “very poor” category in the morning, the CAQM’s sub-committee on GRAP met in the evening to review the situation.

The Meteorological Department indicated that the overall air quality is expected to remain stable for now.

Delhi’s AQI stood at 391 at 10 a.m., improved to 370 by 4 p.m., and further dropped to 365 by 5 p.m. The sub-committee said there was no need to invoke Stage 3 restrictions at present and that the ongoing measures under Stages 1 and 2 will continue across the National Capital Region (NCR).

Under GRAP, various restrictions are enforced in the Delhi-NCR region depending on the severity of air pollution levels.

The meeting was convened to review the air quality situation in the capital city and assess the need for additional measures.
