27th Constitutional Amendment in Pakistan: Opposition Announces Nationwide Shutdown, Opposition Vows to Empower Asim Munir
27th Constitutional Amendment in Pakistan: The opposition parties in Pakistan have announced a nationwide shutdown following the government’s intention to amend the Constitution through the 27th Constitutional Amendment. The nationwide protests will start from Sunday to demonstrate against the move to pass the amendment, which includes proposed changes to Article 243 and the hierarchy of the military’s command.
The proposal states changes involving the abolition of the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) and the introduction of the designation of Chief of Defence Forces (CDF). With this, Asim Munir would rule the roost after becoming the country’s first CDF.
The proposal also includes changes in the transfer of High Court judges, the establishment of the Constitutional Court, and the reduction of powers of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
As per news reports, Tehreek-e-Tahafuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP), led by former PM Imran Khan’s PTI, has announced nationwide protests starting from Sunday onwards.
Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party’s (PkMAP) chief, said the slogan of the protests would be “Long live democracy, down with dictatorship.” Khan is also an alliance member.

Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, who is the chief of the TTAP’s Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM), stated that democratic institutions have been paralysed within Pakistan and urged the nation to step in against this proposed constitutional amendment.
After the Pahalgam attack, India struck Pakistan hard within its territory, after which Pakistan also initiated retaliatory action, conferring the Field Marshal title on the current Army Chief.
Everyone knows that Pakistan is controlled by the Pakistan Army under the disguise of political puppets, and under their direction, such amendments are made to ensure their establishment, setup, business, and power corridors remain the same.
Pakistani journalists Imran Riaz Khan, Waqar Ahmed, Sabir Shakir, and several others have left the country after receiving death threats from the spy agency and have labelled such a move as being against the people and the public mandate in Pakistan.
Imran Riaz says, “Asim Munir is sure Imran will return to power and will use the law; that’s why he uses political puppets to save themselves from the course of the law.”
However, time will tell whether the rise of Munir continues or the opposition will shatter the dreams of Asim Munir.
