British Commentator Sami Hamdi Detained by US Immigration Authorities; Visa Revoked
Sami Hamdi, a prominent Muslim journalist and renowned British commentator who had criticized the Israeli government’s genocide act, has been detained by the United States Immigration Authorities, reported Reuters.
His visa has been revoked, and it is being said that he would be deported rather than allowed to complete his speaking tour in the United States.
As conservative forces were pressurizing Donald Trump to expel Hamdi from the United States, this update could be seen as the trigger point for detaining and revoking his visa.
Hamdi has been kept in custody by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agencies, says a DHS spokesperson. Whereas, on the microblogging platform ‘X’, the spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin posted, “Thanks to the work of @Sec_Noem and @SecRubio and the men and women of law enforcement, this individual’s visa was revoked and he is in ICE custody pending removal.
Under President Trump, those who support terrorism and undermine American national security will not be allowed to work or visit this country.”
As Hamdi was scheduled to speak in Florida on Sunday as per CAIR agency, he was detained at San Francisco International Airport. Earlier, Hamdi had spoken during events in Sacramento and California on Saturday.
CAIR — America’s largest Muslim civil rights organization — released a statement that reads, “Earlier this morning, ICE agents abducted British Muslim journalist and political commentator Sami Hamdi at San Francisco Airport, apparently in response to his vocal criticism of the Israeli government during his ongoing speaking tour. We can confirm that Mr. Hamdi has not been deported and remains in custody. Our attorneys and partners are working to address this injustice. In the meantime, everyone should recognize that arresting a British citizen legally visiting the United States because he dared to criticize a foreign nation’s genocide is our government’s latest blatant affront to free speech. Our nation must stop abducting critics of the Israeli government at the behest of unhinged Israel First bigots; this is an Israel First policy, not an America First policy, and it must end.”
Following the Hamas attack on Israeli southern local communities on October 07, 2023, Israel went on a full-scale operation that has killed tens of thousands of Palestinians. Though the Israeli government defends its operation as a part of defense against Hamas and attempts to avoid any civilian killings, the United Nations exposed this situation, where a commission of inquiry assessed that Israel had committed genocide in Gaza, which Israel denies.
