
Amid Festive Rush, Indian Railways to Operate 12,000 Special Trains to Ensure Smooth Travel for Passengers
Indian Railways has planned to operate nearly 8,000 more special trains in the coming days to cater to passenger traffic amid the festive season. Earlier, the Railways had deployed 12,000 special trains to tackle the traffic influx during the festive rush.
According to a release issued by the CPRO, Northern Railway, festivals like Chhath and others witness a massive surge in passenger traffic during the festive period. Operating additional special trains will help manage this traffic and ease congestion, ensuring hassle-free and comfortable travel. More than 12 lakh railway employees work tirelessly around the clock to ensure efficient operations.
An increase of 1.51 lakh passengers has been recorded compared to last year when the number of travelers was around 13.66 lakh, rising to 15.17 lakh this year.
These special trains are being operated across all zones of Indian Railways — 1,919 trains in the Northern Zone, 1,998 in the Central Zone, 1,501 in the Western Railways, 1,217 in the East Central Railways, and 1,217 in the North Western Railways, the release stated.

Indian Railways also said that it has successfully operated 3,960 special trains between October 1 and October 19 to meet travel requirements during the festive rush.
Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Railway Minister, also interacted with passengers after visiting several stations and reviewed the preparedness and travel arrangements to ensure smooth journeys for passengers.
