“Just Two Women In Cabinet”: Japan’s 1st Woman PM Sanae Takaichi announces …..
Sanae Takaichi – The new prime minister of Japan, an admirer of former British premier Margaret Thatcher, has announced her cabinet, but announces just two other women.
Earlier on Tuesday, she announced the inclusion of just two women in her cabinet, but questions arise on her promising “Nordic” levels of representation in her government.
Earlier, last month, she stated that gender balance in her cabinet and the executive committee of her ruling party would be definite like, in other Nordic nations like Iceland, Finland and Norway, where the Nordic level of representation is present.
As Japan ranks 118 out of 148 nations in the World Economic Forum’s 2025 Gender Gap, also reflects the scenario of inclusion of women in the political domain.
Satsuki Katayama also has become the nation’s first female Finance Minister, whereas Kimi Onod has been appointed as economic security minister.
Toshimitsu Motegi who made a trade deal with US President Donald Trump’s first administration, and Shinjiro Koizumi would take role as new defence minister.
The prime minister has awareness about women’s health struggles, as she is being seen as socially conservative, and also opposes the law requiring the couple to share surname.
She has opinioned off the imperial family to retain male-only succession.
